Parramatta’s plan to make our City the best place to live

The path for Parramatta to become one of the most equitable and resilient cities in Australia has been set after Council endorsed the City’s Social Sustainability Strategy.

The Social Sustainability Strategy (2024-2033) is the City of Parramatta’s vision to provide residents with a safe and socially connected environment to live with dignity and improve quality of life.

The new strategy will guide Council on the creation of future public spaces, facilities, programs, and services that support better health and wellbeing outcomes, while also planning and advocating for increased access to affordable and diverse housing and education opportunities.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Pierre Esber said this strategy is designed to enhance and advocate for better living standards in the City.

“We want to make Parramatta the best place to live – a place where people can reach their potential, connect with their community and feel safe,” Cr Esber said.

“This strategy is designed to bring out the best in our community. It has been shaped by our community who told us that affordable housing, celebrating our community and cultural diversity, and more green and accessible public spaces were their top priorities.

Cr Esber said the strategy built on the City’s recently unveiled First Nations Strategy. A first for a council in Greater Sydney, the First Nations Strategy aims to deliver First Nations people better access to local services and programs, and enable greater input into Council’s work and decision-making processes.

“We are a City that thinks big and long-term. We’re currently engaging with the community on our draft Parramatta 2050 vision which aims to establish Parramatta as a global powerhouse.

“We want our community to have their say on what our City’s future looks like and how we want to be seen in the eyes of the world.”
