Place Management is a multidisciplinary approach to the planning, design and management of public spaces. The aim of place management is to achieve a higher level of social, economic and environmental outcomes throughout a city and surrounding suburbs. It usually involves stepping back and looking at what is currently there, asking questions and listening to the needs and wants of the community.
The team also aims to build partnerships between City of Parramatta, property owners, local businesses, state agencies and community groups. In this way, place management can create a better space in which the community can live, work and play.
The Place Services team
The Place Services team plays a role in achieving City of Parramatta's vision and strategic outcomes. A Place Manager and Operational Liaison Officer are allocated to each Ward in the Parramatta Local Government Area. The team integrates City of Parramatta's services and resources to focus its efforts on coordinating key projects and initiatives, as well as building strategic partnerships between council, property owners, local businesses, state agencies and community groups.
A Place Manager coordinates key projects and initiatives in their allocated Ward to gain strategic results. This may include overseeing key projects to improve neighbourhoods, shopping centre upgrades, streetscape improvements, as well as organising community events such as Family Fun Days.
An Operational Liaison Officer maintains a positive rapport between the community and City of Parramatta regarding issues in their neighbourhood, such as footpath and road issues or illegal dumping. An Operational Liaison Officer is out on site daily, inspecting the neighbourhood and proactively reporting any infrastructure issues such as pot holes, cracked footpaths and dumped rubbish.
