City of Parramatta Council’s Bushland Interpretive Program

City of Parramatta’s Get into Nature Program aims to encourage and educate local residents and visitors on issues surrounding the natural environment, as well as raise awareness of biodiversity in and around Parramatta. The Program includes a range of interactive experiences for all ages. Check out our upcoming events and register to attend below.

Get Into Nature – Edible Natives Workshop

 

Where: John Curtin Meeting Room, John Curtin Reserve 21 Huxley Drive, Winston Hills NSW 2153

When: 10am to 12pm, Saturday 1 March 2025

Cost: $5.00 bond per person which is refundable upon attendance to the event.

What: Discover how Australian native plants can be used to enhance your cooking, made into cordials and jams and can be used to make dark chocolate taste even more amazing.

There will be a presentation and short talk on various native plants and fresh and dried leaf for you to experience aromas and textures, followed by tasty treats for you to enjoy and recipes to share.

Presented by Linda Pine of Cattai Hills Environment Network (CHEN). Linda has been cooking with native ingredients for over 10 years and regularly makes jams and cordials from native fruit and spices.

What: Ever wanted to make art out of natural materials? Join our guides for a walkthrough of how to use the world around us to express yourself!

Get Into Nature – Kids Propagation Workshop

 

 

Where: John Curtin Meeting Room, John Curtin Reserve, 21 Huxley Dr, Winston Hills NSW 2153

When: 10:00am - 11:30am, Tuesday 15 April 2025

Cost: $5.00 bond per person which is refundable upon attendance to the event.

What: Ignite your children's curiosity and connection to nature! This hands-on workshop will explore the cultural significance of native plants through fun interactive activities.

Kids will:

  • Learn traditional uses of plants for medicine, tools, and bushfoods
  • Touch, smell and taste native bush foods
  • Discover cultural artefacts and enjoy ochre painting
  • Propagate their own native plant to take home

Get Into Nature – Buzz on Bees Workshop

Where: Bungaree Community Garden, 18A Derbyshire Ave, Toongabbie NSW 2146

When: 10am to 12pm, Wednesday 16 April 2025

Cost: $5.00 bond per person which is refundable upon attendance to the event.

What: Did you know that there are over 2000 species of native bees in Australia? Who might live in your patch? And how can we make that space the best it can BEE?

Join Dr Amelie Vanderstock (Amelie Ecology) in song, games, nature adventures and art-making to learn about our bee-utiful native bees.

Get Into Nature – Guided Bushwalk at Vineyard Creek

 

 


Where: Vineyard Creek Reserve (meet at reserve entrance near 17 Robert Street Telopea

When: 10am to 12pm, Sunday 25 May 2025

Cost: $5.00 bond per person which is refundable upon attendance to the event.

What: Walk amongst the tall trees and ferns of Vineyard Creek and learn about the flora and fauna of this beautiful spot as well as why it is called Vineyard Creek.
