The Australian Federal Government’s MoneySmart website has information and tools to help you help you make better financial decisions in the following areas:
- Budgeting and tracking your spending
- Managing debts, including mortgage repayments
- Saving for financial security
- Simple ways to save money
- Financial security in retirement - Superannuation
You can also talk with a financial counsellor to obtain advice on how to consolidate debts to make your repayments more manageable – See the information on Financial Counselling provided below.
Wesley Mission also offers advice through a Credit & Debt Hotline (1800 007 007), see further details below.
65+ Year Olds
You may be eligible for Australian Government funded home care services if you’re an older person (usually 65+ or 50+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) finding it harder to do the things you used to do, or needing short-term assistance.
Based on an assessment of your needs, you may be able to access services that are partly or fully funded by the Australian Government, to improve your wellbeing or stay independent. This could include transport, meals, equipment like walking frames, and physiotherapy. Fees may be applicable with your capacity to pay taken into account.
