Have your say on a major pedestrian and cycling path study

A major study to dramatically expand Parramatta’s pedestrian and cycling path network by three kilometres, connecting Northmead, Winston Hills and Parramatta, is now on public exhibition.

The study investigated the viability of separated pedestrian and cyclist paths along Kleins Road, Northmead with a new active transport bridge over Darling Mills Creek and connecting network of shared paths, potentially extending the City’s extensive active transport network north from the CBD and Parramatta Park.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Pierre Esber said this was a chance for residents to have their say on the proposal.

“We want to provide as many opportunities as possible for residents to walk and ride around our beautiful City, but we also want to get it right,” Cr Esber said.

“This study provides a picture of a safer and more enjoyable path network for both cyclists and pedestrians trying to get between Northmead, Winston Hills and Parramatta, away from the busy Windsor Road and Church Street corridors.

“Since 2017, Council has delivered 8.5 kilometres of improved cycling infrastructure, with the assistance of State and Federal Governments, to the value of $53 million, with an additional $135 million secured to plan, design and construct a further 20km.

“More people than ever are choosing not to drive and to leave the car at home and it’s a great habit we want them to continue.”

The study will look at the following sections:

  • Kleins Road between Moxhams Road and Darling Mills Creek, Northmead
  • An active transport bridge over Darling Mills Creek, Northmead
  • A new pedestrian and cyclist network through Parramatta North connecting the Darling Mills Bridge to Parramatta Park and the CBD.
  • A connecting shared path network east and west of Kleins Road, Northmead, and further north up to Winston Hills and the M2. Separate pedestrian and cyclist paths along the main corridor from Moxhams Road to Commbank Stadium.

This project is proudly funded by City of Parramatta and Transport for NSW’s Get NSW Active program.
