Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 commitment ‘a win for the community’

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Donna Davis has welcomed the NSW Government’s commitment to proceed with the delivery of Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2.

“This is fantastic news for the City of Parramatta and the communities who live and work in some of Australia’s fastest-growing suburbs,” Cr Davis said.

“Council has long advocated for the State Government to extend the Parramatta Light Rail line to Sydney Olympic Park, Wentworth Point and Melrose Park, so today’s announcement is pleasing.

“Our City is booming and with 29,000 new homes forecast to be built along the proposed light rail alignment over the next 15 years, infrastructure such as this is critical to support this growth.

“Residents in these suburbs have been waiting a long time for a major public transport service that connects them with the Parramatta CBD and other neighbouring areas.”

Cr Davis said the NSW Premier’s commitment to fund a bridge between Melrose Park and Wentworth Point in the upcoming budget, as well as route enabling works and final planning, will provide much-needed certainty to communities and businesses.

“Council looks forward to working with the NSW Government and sharing its local knowledge and expertise to ensure Stage 2 of the Parramatta Light Rail meets the needs of the residents, workers and visitors in our City,” she said.
